BVCDAT PROGRAM 2021

The Bega Valley Community Drug Action Team (BVCDAT), in partnership with Bournda EEC, is pleased to invite a team of 8 Stage 5 students from each of the secondary schools in the Bega Valley to attend our 14th Leadership Camp.

The proposed dates are :-

CDAT Training Day – Wednesday 21st April 2021 (Week 1 Term 2) – 1 day (no cost)

CDAT Term 2 camp – Wednesday 12 – Friday 14 May (Week 4 Term 2) – 3 days, 2 nights

The cost of the camp (fully catered) is $40 per student. BVCDAT and Bournda EEC subsidise the cost of the camp.

What is the CDAT Camp all about?

The annual Bega Valley CDAT camp is a valuable program which first ran in 2008. Students develop leadership skills with a focus on promoting healthy lifestyles and action on drug related issues, while camping out in the National Park. Activities have included: kayaking; orienteering; the ropes course; creative programs such as music and art; challenge games and the Australian Red Cross save-a-mate program. The program is supported by CDAT partners, including the NSW Police.

“The camp was developed to build leadership skills and resilience among year 9 and 10 students at our 4 high schools and the students who have participated over the years have provided great feedback about the value of the camp and the joy of their experience. With 10 years of successful camps the CDAT committee is committed to providing this opportunity for students in 2020.”

WHAT DO STUDENTS SAY ABOUT CDAT?

BEGA VALLEY CDAT BOURNDA CAMP – REPORT BY BEGA HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

On Wednesday the 26th of October seven year 10 students (Ci-aan Argent, Cylem Power, Liam Jolley, Aden Lord, Kaylah Faulkner, Danyon Pilbeam and Georgia Burgess) went on the Community Drug and Action Team (CDAT) three day camp down in Bournda; along with students from Lumen Christi Catholic College, Sapphire Coast Anglican College and Eden Marine High School. The idea of the camp was to engage in fun activities without the use of drugs; as well as learning ways to respond if we see someone affected by drugs or alcohol, along with how to improve youth involvement in the community.

Over the three days we participated in a variety of physical activities such as kayaking, bush walking, bike riding, spotlighting and getting to go on the rope course at Bournda EEC. Along with these we also undertook team building exercises down on the beach and a chance to use our creative sides in photography, song writing, poetry, creative writing or sculpture making. On Thursday we got to check out a highway patrol car, trying on the bullet proof vests and seeing how fast we can run against the high speed radar gun, which was an exciting opportunity.

“My favourite moment of the CDAT Camp was getting to make friends with students from other schools and getting to learn new things that I hadn’t known about.” –Georgia Burgess

We would all just like to also throw out a huge thank you to the staff at Bournda and staff from the high schools for looking after us over the three days and of course a thank you must go to Miss Anna Martin who came and spent the camp with us.

2019 Highlights

The Bega Valley Community Drug Action Team and South East Arts collaborated to produce a documentary about the annual Bournda Environmental Eduction Centre Leadership Camp which has been operating for 12 years. During the 2019 Bournda EEC CDAT Camp, an Eden High School student was mentored by filmmaker Carl Broman to assist with the production of this video.
