ARRANGEMENTS FOR THE 2020-21 BUSH FIRE SEASON
Dear parent/carer,
I am writing to let you know about arrangements for Bournda EEC for the current bush fire season.
Bournda EEC has been identified as a school at increased risk if a bush fire were to break out on a day when a Catastrophic Fire Danger Rating is issued for our area.
To ensure the health, safety and welfare of students and staff, the NSW Department of Education has determined that on days when a Catastrophic Fire Danger Rating is issued for our area, the school will temporarily cease operations for the day(s) the rating is current. This is based on information obtained through a bush fire assessment of our school arranged by the department.
A Catastrophic Fire Danger Rating is likely to occur on a very small number of days during the bush fire season, if at all.
Bournda EEC will only receive notification of a Catastrophic Fire Danger Rating after school hours the day before the forecast is issued. We will liaising closely with schools that are booked to come to Bournda to ensure that timely information is given to parents and carers. Notification of the cancellation of any activity will be posted on the Bournda facebook page (@BourndaEEC) , Twitter account (@bournda) and News page on our website. Bournda National Park will also be closed if there is a catastrophic FDR so any school group camping in the Park would be required to leave,
Up to date bush fire information will also be available to you on the department’s bush fire safety website. The link for this site is: https://education.nsw.gov.au/inside-the-department/health-and-safety/emergency-planning-and-incident-response/emergency-management-procedures/bushfire-planning
The safety of students is always our highest priority and we are working closely with emergency services and National Parks to ensure that any risk from bushfire is minimised. Please contact the school on 64945009 if you would like any further information about this matter.
Yours sincerely,
Doug Reckord
Principal, Bournda EEC

Where can I obtain information on bush fire conditions or activity during the bush fire season?
Stay up to date during periods of increased
fire danger and when there is a bush fire in the local area. You can do this by:
• Knowing the Fire Danger Rating (FDR) for your NSW Fire Area (especially on hot, dry and windy
days)
• Actively monitor information on fire activity through TV, radio and the NSW RFS website
(www.rfs.nsw.gov.au)
• Be on alert for warnings such as Bush Fire Alert Levels issued by the RFS
• Watch for signs of fire, especially smoke or the smell of smoke
• Call the RFS Bush Fire Information Line on 1800 NSW RFS (1800 679 737)
• Download the free NSW RFS Fires Near Me – Mobile App
• Access www.livetraffic.com for information on road closures or traffic generated congestion
